Persepolis/Creative Project

1.)I felt that Satrapi's use of the graphic novel added to the humanness of her story. When reading an auto-biographical text that contains intense subject material , it is easy to come up with images of the story from a world far removed from your own. By the use of a comic book like presentation, the innocence, as well as the brutal aspects of the events were amplified. Kind of like how Quentin Tarantino always uses goofy up-beat surf rock when people are being violently tortured. It produces a very shocking but effective atmosphere.

2.) My creative project will probably take the form of a Hunter S. Thompson-esk stream of consciousness type piece of writing. Although I'm not entirely certain.

Check out poet Ron Silliman for someone who does something very interesting with interior monologue and the miniutae of everyday.
