Response to "The Invisible Napsack"

I believe that the views presented in the article regarding white privilege are quite accurate. The United States sets the white male as it's neutral and dominant figure, putting him as the base-line for what others should aspire to be. This creates the problem of forcing other non-white groups to assimilate in order to be successful, this is not true in all cases, but governs much of the social structure. This article reminded me of one instance where I was very aware of my whiteness, (although I like to see my skin color as more of a shimmering olive tone) When I was around 11 and in Jamaica, I remember walking around with a Jamaican man whose name was also Sam who happened to be my families driver on the trip. When walking in town with Sam, I realized I was the only white person, two police officers quickly rushed up to me and my companion and separated us. Because I was white, the police officers assumed that I may have been kidnapped. I explained to them that that was not the case, and they let us on our way. That situation showed how much skin color comes into play.
