Violence

I don't have to read Gandhi or Fannon to know that I am not down with violence. I really feel as though the best method is non-violence. If everyone practiced non-violence the world be a much better place. But of course that's not going to happen. I agree with Gandhi's stratification (right word?) of fear and violence: nonviolence is the best method requiring the least fear, violence is the next best, and cowardice is the worst method full of fear. I think that nonviolence should be used as often as possible, but violence may be needed sometimes. I was thinking about what Malcom X said, that a solution that takes forever to work is no solution at all. I agree. I hate to say it too, because that implies that if needed one should use violence to speed up the working of a solution. But I do truly feel that violence simply perpetuates itself. I think that if those in a movement were truly dedicated to nonviolence then it could work, perhaps slower than a violent method would, but with longer lasting, better, and happier results. But, until a critical situation presents itself, I can't say for sure what my response would be. I hope it would be loud and proud but non-violent.
