Strength in America and Nietzsche
Strength in American culture is valued highly. It is seen as one's personal resolution to make something of oneself. To start with nothing and become someone with everything. Strength seems to go along with money and economic success. Strength I think means the ability to persevere and achieve one's desired success no matter what life throws at you. I fear, though, that American culture no longer values strength of character, as it seems many strong powerful people in our country seem to do whatever it takes, no matter the moral implications of their actions.
In Nietzsche, I think strength is represented by knowledge. By knowledge of the past and knowing what is true. but not a truth that is true simply because people believe it to be so, but a truth that has a real foundation and can be recognized and researched to be accurate. Strength stems from this knowledge because it allows one to see what the current day implications are. I think this because he talks so passionately about how no one really knows where these ideas of good and bad/evil really come from and why these definitions came about. Nietzsche has a firm strength in his understanding of this idea and is able to see the hypocrisy arrising out of this.
